Hi there. A little about me…..
I am a divorce attorney and certified family mediator. My mediation practice is devoted to helping divorcing families in New York create amicable and sustainable solutions outside the court system. I have a comprehensive understanding of the emotional, legal, and financial dimensions of divorce and separation. It is my firm belief that for almost every divorce or separation, mediation is the better choice. As a mediator, legal consultant, and divorce attorney, I am passionate about helping couples find a path forward with clarity, compassion, respect, and cooperation.
After graduating from law school, I first practiced corporate litigation, before I found my way to divorce litigation, which I practiced for several years in New York City. I then took a career pause to raise my three children. In 2023, I returned to work as a divorce litigator in New York City. What I found surprised me. I had enjoyed practicing divorce litigation in my 20s and early 30s— the high net worth celebrity clients, the adrenaline rush of pressure-filled trials, the late nights of drafting motions and legal briefs. But none of it appealed to me anymore. I felt that the clients’ interests, and more importantly the children’s interests, were getting lost in the legal shuffle. It became clear to me that the legal system is inadequately designed to address the emotional and personal complexities that families who are divorcing or separating are facing. Parties in litigation often use their children as pawns in their battle against each other. Unnecessary issues are litigated, with little or no concern for the emotion damage done to the family unit, not to mention the cost. It is no secret that divorce litigation is insanely expensive.
After witnessing first-hand the emotional and financial strain that the litigation process imposes on clients, I chose to transition to divorce mediation. The fundamental principle of mediation-that the two people involved in the conflict are the ones best suited to resolve it- immediately appealed to me. Divorcing or separating couples can creatively come up with healthier and more sustainable solutions for their families than a court. I help my clients identify their underlying concerns and bring those concerns to the table. I remind my clients that this process is their’s, not mine. They are in control. That is the power of mediation- unlike litigation, where the lawyers and the judge control the process.
My legal background in divorce law equips me with a deep understanding of the nuances involved in navigating the various and wide-ranging issues in the divorce and separation process. Through mediation, I help couples reach agreements on parenting plans, custody, spousal maintenance, equitable distribution, and other key issues. I handle all stages of the process, including the mediation, the drafting of agreements, and the filing of the uncontested court papers. I also act as a review and consulting attorney.
In addition, I work with couples who are deciding to get married and are seeking prenuptial agreements, as well as couples who are already married and are seeking postnuptial agreement.
I live in Rye, New York, with my husband, Stephen, and my three children.
